Visa application process and visa procedure in 2023
Nationals of the countries listed in Annex I to Regulation (EC) No 1806 of the European Parliament and of the Council 2018/1806 are required to hold a valid visa for entry into the Schengen area. The Schengen visa and entry rules only apply to stays of less than 90 days.
The visa procedure starts on application. The applicant fills in a form and submits it in person at the Hungarian embassy or consulate general in the country of residence or habitual residence (for a list of embassies and consulates click here Missions Abroad | Consular Information (gov.hu)
In some countries, the application can also be submitted at the office of an external service provider, details of which can be found on the websites of the Hungarian missions in the countries concerned.
The visa application form can be downloaded in several languages from the website of the Consular Service.
It is recommended to arrive at the time indicated for submission with the form already filled in. It is not necessary to attach a photograph to the form, as the biometric data of the applicant, i.e. his/her photograph and ten fingerprints, will be recorded during the submission process.
In all cases, the applicant must have:
– a valid flight reservation
– proof of accommodation in Hungary
– a travel document covering the whole period of travel for the whole territory of the Schengen Member States
– health insurance covering a minimum of EUR 30.000.
According to the Immigration and Nationality Office, the invitation letter requirement has been abolished as of 01 January 2023.
To apply for a visa you must have the following!!
In all cases, the applicant must have:
– a valid flight reservation
– proof of accommodation in Hungary
– a travel document for the whole territory of the Schengen Member States, covering the whole duration of the journey
– health insurance with a minimum cover of EUR 30.000.
